Night Shift Supervisor

SUMMARY

Supervises and coordinates activities of machine operators and material handlers. Performs a variety of routine and complex skilled work in overseeing the operation and maintaining machines.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works under the general supervision of the Plant Manager.
  • Exercises supervision over machine operators, material handlers and temporary staff as assigned.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and/or job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product, and suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency in shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains production records.
  • When supervising workers, is required to be adept in the activities of the worker supervised.
  • When supervising workers, is required to possess specific knowledge of the activities involved.
  • Frequently checks quality of workers.
  • Verifies materials to meet specification before and after processing.
  • Confers with workers to resolve grievances.
  • Selects inspection device to measure factors according to job specifications and procedure manuals.
  • Conducts written/verbal performance evaluations, as required.
  • Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Trains new workers, as required.
  • Estimates material usage and inspects material.
  • Confers with other Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Serves as a member of various employee committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of (3) year experience in a manufacturing leadership/supervision role/li>
  • Power industrial truck and crane operation experience
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in use of methods, materials, equipment, and tools; Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; Considerable knowledge of the daily production problems.
  • Ability to effectively instruct subordinates in the proper methods, procedures and safety precautions of line work; ability to supervise the work of machine operators and helpers and direct jobs safely, efficiently and economically; ability to solve daily production problems; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; ability to calculate material usage; ability to read and understand orders and blueprints.
  • Proficient with Microsoft operating systems
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and 6S methodology
