Successful method of processing (slitting & die-cutting) 3M™ VHB™ tape.

- Must have space between parts on common liner to facilitate efficient and effort-less part removal from liner.
- Top liner must be extended on both sides for easy removal by automaker.
- Part must dispense via automated application equipment without errors.

Kapco’s engineers accepted the challenge. During the project Kapco introduced a new proprietary method of die-cutting this very aggressive VHB™ adhesive that guarantees error-free dispensing. This new method of die-cutting presented an even larger benefit to the customer—elimination of the traditional matrix allowing 100% of the incoming material to become finished parts.

The sales team took this project a step further by locating an equipment manufacturer to modify existing application equipment to automatically apply the tape to the customer’s parts.

The Kapco team was able to successfully exceed all of the original requirements from the customer. In addition, the taping operation at our customer’s facility was reduced from three shifts per day to one. All capital expenditures were repaid in the first year of a five-year program.
